Chapter 3: “I Will Always Be By Your Side”

By AnimaeChina

It’s another Sunday, and Angelique and Randy are on another date. Angelique was going to invite him to her room but Randy asked her if she would like him to teach her archery in his garden. Angelique took the offer immediately; it wasn’t everyday that you could get a date inside a guardian’s office.

“Are you ready?” Randy asked looking at Angelique. Angelique was standing tall, holding a bow and arrow, and getting ready to fire it.

“Yes, Randy-sama!” she declared.

“Okay! One, two, three...GO!” Randy said. Their arrows flew quickly through the air and hit the target. Randy got a bull’s eye and Angelique got the outer ring.

“Still no good.” Angelique pouted.

“It’s alright, it’s more important that you hit the target than getting a bull’s eye,” Randy said encouragingly.

“Well...if you say so, then I guess it’s okay!” she replied cheerfully.

After a couple more rounds of firing arrows, the two decided to take a break. A servant came up to them and asked if they wanted anything. Randy ordered a cola and Angelique said that she would have the same as him. While waiting for the drinks, they decided to take the arrows off of the targets.

“If you keep practicing I’m sure you’ll get a bull’s eye,” he informed her.

“Arigatou,” she replied softly.

Their drinks arrived as soon as they were done cleaning up. The two brought them inside and sat at Randy’s desk and started talking about the cultivation of Elysion.

“Elysion seems to be prospering properly,” Randy commented.

Angelique nodded in agreement taking a sip out of her cola. “Sometimes, it seems like a dream,” she murmured.

Randy didn’t respond he just stared at her, sipping his cola. Angelique didn’t notice after a while of silence she looked up from her drink and gazed directly in his eyes.

“Is there something wrong with my face?” she asked bringing a hand to her face. “Or with my clothes?” she added, getting up looking at her white sweatshirt and jeans.

Randy shook his head rapidly, blushing. “It’s nothing!” he insisted. Angelique gives him a perplexed look and walked over to him.

“Are you okay?” She asked, peering closely at his face. “You’re as red as an apple.”

He backed away from her quickly. “I-I’m fine! Y-You don’t have to worry!” he stammered.

Angelique moved away from his face and frowned. “Alright...” she murmured softly.

Randy got up from his desk and ran over to her side. “Please don’t be upset! I’m really fine; I’m not keeping anything from you! I still like you a lot!” he explained in one breath, turning red. “Why am I so clumsy with girls?” he complained inwardly.

Angelique just stared at him flabbergasted then gave him a big smile. “I’m not mad at you.” she said placing a hand on his shoulder. “Would you like to walk me home now?” she asked, changing the subject.

Randy nodded rigorously, and they both started walking to her room.

On the way, the decided to pass through the park and to their surprise, they found Zephel. However, the meeting wasn’t pleasant.

Out of nowhere a mechanical bird came zooming toward them.

“Angelique, get down!” Randy shouted.

“Huh? What?” Before she could finish her question, Randy dragged her to the ground, and the bird flew by missing them by a hair.

Randy grimaced, dusting the dirt off his blue sweatshirt and jeans. “It seems that Zephel is testing Mecha-Chupi again.”

“It seems like it still needs some work,” Angelique echoed looking at the mechanical bird.

“Well, speak of the devil,” Randy murmured. Zephel came running toward them in his hand he was holding the control to Mecha-Chupi.

“Are you two okay?” he asked apprehensively. “The PX-WW-09 didn’t hit you, right?”

Angelique gave him a big smile. “We’re both fine. We know that you didn’t mean for Mecha-Chupi to harm us.”

Zephel glared at Angelique. “How many times do I have to tell everybody not to call it Mecha-Chupi!”

His outburst caused Angelique to flinch and made Randy more irritated with him.

“It’s easier to remember than PX whatever it is!” Randy snapped, walking closer to Zephel.”

“PX-WW-09!” Zephel retorted taking a step toward Randy. The tension between the two guardians was so thick that Angelique felt her hair stand on end.

“Now, now, you two, don’t fight,” Angelique said evenly, getting in between them. “You don’t want to ruin your day off, right?”

The two guardians moved away from each other slowly, still glowering at each other.

“Come on Angelique, I’ll take you home,” Randy said quietly.

“Coming!” Angelique replied. Before she went off with him, she bowed to Zephel. “I’m sorry about calling P...P...” she began.

“PX-WW-09,” He finished for her.

“PX-WW-09, Mecha-Chupi. I’ll try not to call it that next time,” Angelique said.

Zephel gave her a kind smile. “It’s okay, I forgive you,” he said considerately, patting on the shoulder.

Back in Angelique’s room, the two talked at her desk and were eating a pie that she recently made.

“I’m sorry for leading you into an uncomfortable situation in the park. It’s just that when you flinched, my sense of justice kicked in,” Randy explained nervously, playing with the remaining bits of his pie.

Angelique shook her head and placed her hand on top his. “It’s okay. What you did was admirable,” she said kindly.

“Thanks,” Randy said shyly.

“You’re welcome,” she replied, equally shy.

“I guess I better go now,” Randy said getting up, changing the subject. The two walked to the door.

“I’ll see you tomorrow?” Angelique asked hopefully.

“Uh-huh,” Randy answered. “Um...before I go, I want to tell you something.” he added blushing.

“What is it?” she said, giving him an inquisitive look.

“I will try to always be by your side.” he said, blushing even deeper.

“Randy-sama...” she whispered, blushing also.

At that moment, Randy gave Angelique a kiss on the cheek. “Good night.”

Angelique brought her hand to her cheek and watched him until he disappeared from her sight. When she closed the door, suddenly felt warmer and her throbbing faster than normal.

“I will try to always be by your side,” she thought recalling his words. “Do I want that?”

Author’s Notes: I’m finally done with the third chapter! I did this all during school during my open campus. I should probably used this time studying, but I don’t like studying. ^^;;; Anyway, what do you think? This time I actually tried to incorporate the title of the chapter in the dialogue. I think it worked out well even though it was near the end. Please e-mail with your comments and constructive criticism at SailorPeace_musi@hotmail.com or AnimaeChina@yahoo.com
